It's the homestretch.
The New York Jets begin their final week of training camp, with three days of open practices at their facility in Florham Park, New Jersey. Practice starts at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, but the gates open for the public at 11:30 a.m. Storylines we'll be following:
The QB watch. Yep, it's getting close to that time. At some point over the next seven days, the Jets figure to announce their starting quarterback. Geno Smith, of course, is the presumptive starter. It'll be up to Rex Ryan and John Idzik to decide whether to announce it before or after Friday night's game against the New York Giants.
Injury update. Four starters missed the last game, so we'll be checking on their status -- wide receiver Eric Decker, running back Chris Ivory, tight end Jeff Cumberland and cornerback Dimitri Patterson. Obviously, cornerback Dee Milliner has a ways to go before he's healthy.
Saunders update. Rookie wide receiver Jalen Saunders, hospitalized for an undisclosed reason, isn't expected to practice. Saunders was in a one-car accident last Friday, according to the team, which has provided no other details. As of Saturday, he still was in the hospital, Ryan said. At first, Saunders was kept in the hospital for precautionary monitoring. Police termed the incident a medical accident.
Lineup changes. Two positions bear watching -- left guard and safety. Oday Aboushi started over Brian Winters at left guard, although Winters remains the frontrunner. Jaiquawn Jarrett started over No. 1 pick Calvin Pryor at safety, but Pryor was sensational in his first game. And, of course, we'll have an eye on safety-turned-cornerback Antonio Allen. You've heard of "Where's Waldo?" From now on, we'll be playing, "Where's Antonio?"
