Well, we already have a storyline for the first Jets-Dolphins game, a Monday night game (Oct. 17) on ESPN: The cornerbacks are chirping.
Darrelle Revis, responding to Vontae Davis' claim that he and Sean Smith are the best cornerback tandem in the league, put them in their place by basically saying, "Sorry, kids, you're not there yet."
"They gotta play a couple more years before he's saying all that," Revis told reporters at the MetLife announcement Friday in Manhattan. "He has to play a few more years. I mean, they're a good tandem but they have a lot of work to do."
Obviously, Revis believes he and Antonio Cromartie are the best tandem, but he claimed he's not upset with Davis' claim.
"No, it really don't matter because the film don't lie," Revis said. "You can say what you want to say. You can say the sky is red, but it ain't red, you know? That's just what it is. We know what we do on the field, not just as a corner tandem, but the whole secondary."
There's some back story here: Revis said he and the Miami tandem are friends, and that they worked out together in the offseason. Revis said he's tried to encourage the two players.
"I had that talk with him, him and Sean, and it looks like they're motivated to go out and do it. Yes, I am responsible for it," Revis said. "But it's all in good intentions and you want to see guys playing great football. They have to push themselves."
