Jets add DT Tevaseu, place WR Payne on IR

Concerned about DT Mike DeVito's availability for Sunday's game against the Chargers, the Jets signed DT Martin Tevaseu from their practice squad Saturday.

DeVito injured his knee Thursday when he was caught in a pile up in practice. He returned to practice, but was so sore Friday that he couldn't practice at all. He's listed as questionable.

If DeVito can't play -- it will be a game-time decision, if it hasn't been made already -- the Jets would give rookie NT Kenrick Ellis his first NFL start. Ellis, a third-round pick from Hampton, made his debut last Monday night in a backup role.

To make room for Tevaseu, who played last Monday night before being waived and added to the practice squad, the Jets placed WR Logan Payne (wrist) on injured reserve. That means his season is over. It never began. Payne underwent wrist surgery in the preseason, but he was kept on the 53-man roster with the hope that he'd return at some point.

Now it'll have to be 2012.
