Power Rankings: No. 28 New York Jets

A weekly examination of the Jets' ESPN.com Power Ranking:

Preseason: 32 | Last Week: 27 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002

The Jets dropped only one spot in the rankings after their three-point loss to the New England Patriots. What does it mean? Hard to say. As we noted before the game, it was a house-money contest for the Jets, and they nearly pulled off a huge upset. If Geno Smith had thrown only two interceptions instead of three, we could be talking about the surprising 2-0 Jets as one of the biggest stories in the league. Then again, if Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David hadn't been flagged for a late hit in the opener ... well, you get the point.

Clearly, the Jets still have plenty of skeptics, as there are five 0-2 teams ranked ahead of them. You can understand most of them, but the Carolina Panthers? That's a bit odd, no?
