The Snap: Training camp, Day 29

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Training camp ends Thursday.

Thursday also marks the team's last practice before it's third and most important preseason game against the New York Giants Saturday night.

Jets coach Rex Ryan is expected to officially name Geno Smith his starting quarterback for the Giants game.

Smith, who has practiced with the first team the last three days, had arguably his best practice Wednesday, throwing more touchdowns (two) than incompletions (one).

On the injury front, cornerback Dee Milliner (calf), nose tackle Kenrick Ellis (back) and wideout Braylon Edwards (rest) remained out Wednesday. Top target Santonio Holmes (foot) doesn't sound like he'll be ready for Week 1, but he isn't ruling it out.

ICYMI: Corner Antonio Cromartie delivered a crushing hit on wide receiver Stephen Hill, which drew the ire of many of his teammates -- notably center Nick Mangold. Ryan wasn't too happy about it. Hill said there were no hard feelings. Cro wasn't around to comment. ... Special-teamer/running back Joe McKnight wouldn't talk to reporters. He told The AP he had a concussion, but Ryan wouldn't exactly confirm that. Guess McKnight's got bigger worries at this point, though, like making the team. Ryan also regretted saying his defense will finish in the top-five, though you know he believes it.
