NEW YORK -- During his regular pregame press conference Friday night, Mike D'Antoni was asked about Baron Davis' return.
D'Antoni sounded optimistic and said he and the coaching staff will determine a timetable early next week.
"He looked good yesterday [in practice]," he said. "He played 3-on-3 and he'll do that tomorrow. Then Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, we'll make a decision when he can come back."
If healthy, Davis would fill in the backup role the Knicks' haven't found consistency with all season. And right now, Iman Shumpert is still playing out of position, but thrives in the offense playing alongside Lin.
Also, Davis would alleviate some of the pressure off Lin, who's been playing a lot of minutes lately and struggling with his turnovers. Through the first quarter against the Hornets, he had five and he's averaging six in his last six starts.
The Knicks just hope there's no pressure on Davis' back.
