Friday night in Cleveland, the Knicks have a chance to get off to a 4-0 start to end the season. If they accomplish that, and the Magic go 1-3 in their final four games, they'll take over the sixth spot in the playoff picture.
Here are three things to watch for tonight in Cleveland:
1. CARMELO ANTHONY AND AMARE STOUDEMIRE, TOGETHER AGAIN
This is the biggest storyline heading into tonight. However, their time together on the court will be limited because Mike Woodson is expecting to play Stoudemire around 20 minutes tonight. It will be interesting to see how Stoudemire's presence will affect Anthony's scoring approach. Since March 26, when STAT became inactive, Melo's mentality has been to go to work right away after catching the ball.
Now, will Anthony spend a few extra seconds looking for Stoudemire? Melo has been playing well because he hasn't wasted any time attacking the basket, and that has helped the Knicks develop a faster pace in halfcourt sets and get open shots. Could STAT slow down Melo just a bit? Likely not, but the Knicks' rhythm will not be the same to start the game with STAT having to get acclimated to the offense.
2. LANDRY FIELDS' NEW ROLE
How will Fields adjust to coming off the bench? Woodson said on ESPN New York 1050 radio Friday afternoon that he needs to help the second-year player by giving him more confidence to play his game. The head coach hinted Fields' new situation could help him.
3. WILL DAN GADZURIC PLAY?
Woodson said during pregame on Friday that the Knicks' newest acquisition will likely not play against the Cavaliers. He said he'll see how things go tonight. Right now, the only big man he's focused on is Stoudemire.
