Woody: Felton's the starter

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Raymond Felton will start at point guard for the New York Knicks this season, coach Mike Woodson announced Tuesday.

Some had speculated Woodson would choose to start Jason Kidd, but the coach ended any potential drama by naming Felton his starter after the first day of training camp.

"I think he's had opportunities over the years to run teams and he's done a great job at it," Woodson said. "At the end of the day, it's still about the team. I don't think anybody else on this team is going to care who starts, but Raymond will probably be our starter."

The Knicks acquired Felton in an offseason trade with Portland after electing not to match the Houston Rockets' contract offer to Jeremy Lin.

WOODSON ADDS TO STAFF: In his first full season on the job, Woodson has added several members to his coaching staff. In addition to shooting coach Dave Hopla, Woodson added Lasalle Thompson and Jerry Dunn as assistants. Former Celtics, Bucks, Clippers and Sixers coach Chris Ford will serve as a consultant.

Thompson has replaced Kenny Atkinson as a player development coach. Thompson previously served as an assistant with the Charlotte Bobcats under Larry Brown and played with Woodson in Kansas City. Atkinson left the staff over the summer to join the Atlanta Hawks. Dunn coached at Penn State and served as an assistant at Michigan and West Virginia under John Beilein.
