Knicks opener draws good, loud crowd

Many wondered how many fans would make it to the Garden on Friday night, due to transportation issues in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

There are a few pockets of empty seats in the lower bowls, but the place looks pretty full.

It's loud, too.

Carmelo Anthony got a boisterous ovation following his pregame speech thanking fans for coming to the Garden.

Knicks owner James Dolan told a small group of reporters that he hopes Friday's game can help those affected by Sandy take their minds off things -- even for a brief time.

"It's good for New York," said Dolan, who rarely speaks to the media. "A lot of people told me they were either coming or watching on TV. It will give people something to cheer about and take their minds off of things for a few hours."

WOODY'S LINEUP: Mike Woodson started Anthony at power forward forward against Miami, but don't expect Anthony there all season.

Anthony played power forward against Miami because the Heat feature a smaller lineup, but Woodson will probably go with Kurt Thomas as his starting power forward against teams with more size in their starting five.

Anthony was joined by Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd in the backcourt. Ronnie Brewer started at small forward and Tyson Chandler started at center.

"I'm not saying that that's going to be our starting lineup every time we tip it up," Woodson said. "But Kidd and Pablo (Prigioni), all three point guards have shown that they can play a number of positions and they're worthy of playing time. I feel good about whoever's out there."

Woodson said he wasn't sure if he'd use veteran Rasheed Wallace against Miami. Marcus Camby, sidelined by a calf injury for most of preseason, was not available Friday.

TICKET PRICES DROP: Ticket prices on the secondary market took a hit in the aftermath of Sandy, according to the website TiqIQ, which tracks the secondary market.

TiqIQ says the average price on Oct. 28 was $645.21. The lowest price on the secondary market was $159. At around 2 p.m. Friday, the average price was $548.11 and the lowest price was $120, a decrease of nearly 25 percent.
