Novak would 'love' to be in 3-point contest

Houston, All-Star Weekend 2013.

It will, of course, be "The Jeremy Lin Show," but his former Knicks teammate could steal a headline from Linsanity.

Steve Novak told ESPNNewYork.com recently that he would "love" to be included in the 3-point contest for the first time.

"That would be great," he said. "I mean, I think that's something that just happens because of whatever happens in the season. I'd love to, of course, be in it. It's not something where before the game think, 'I need to do this,' but, of course, it would be awesome."

Novak started his hot shooting about two weeks before the 2012 All-Star break, so he wasn't able to participate in the shootout. Now that he's coming off a season in which he finished as the league's most accurate 3-point shooter (47.2 percent), he's a favorite to participate on All-Star Saturday.

Novak created his own persona with his Discount Triple Check celebration after some made 3s. The move, in which he puts an invisible championship belt around his waist, is featured in the new NBA 2K13 video game.

Novak couldn't believe it.

"That's hilarious," he said, laughing. "I love it. I can't wait to see it. I actually don't play at all. I've never even seen myself in a video game."

While Novak has gained popularity in New York and around the country for his shooting exploits -- which led to his new $15 million contract -- he's only focused on what made him successful: hoops.

"I don't really have any side motivation or side interest from basketball at this point," Novak said. "To be honest, what I've enjoyed so much from just the fan reaction and support this last year is the effect that I've been able to have when it comes to basketball camps with kids, and that kind of thing."

That's Novak for you -- pure, like his jump shot.
