New year, even better.
That's how it was for Carmelo Anthony through the first week of 2013, earning him Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors, which was announced Monday by the NBA. While Anthony topped the league in scoring at 36.0 points per game -- including 45 points against the Trail Blazers and 40 against the Magic -- the Knicks went 2-1.
On the season, Anthony is averaging career highs in points per game (29.3) and 3-point percentage (43.5). His increase in attempts and accuracy from beyond the arc have been the biggest boost to his scoring.
James Harden was recognized out West, leading the Rockets to a 4-0 record while averaging 29.3 points.
