Training camp is still a few weeks away, but some Knicks have shown up early at the team's practice facility in Greenburgh to work out together.
It is common for players to get together on their own to work out. Some Brooklyn Nets worked out together in Los Angeles recently.
Last season, the Knicks worked out together at the team's practice facility before training camp.
Attendance at this year's workouts should pick up a bit next week.
It is unclear when Carmelo Anthony will join. Another question mark is Andrea Bargnani. Bargnani was forced to sit out of Italy's participation in EuroBasket 2013 due to pneumonia. His availability for training camp is unknown at this point.
CUT TYLER? Jeremy Tyler, 22, underwent surgery earlier this week to repair a fracture in his fifth metatarsal of his right foot.
Tyler signed a two-year deal with the Knicks but it is only partially guaranteed. So I saw a few tweets from Knicks fans wondering if the team will cut ties with Tyler and add another big to fill the roster spot. I think that would be a bit shortsighted.
Tyler is a young player the Knicks can develop, something that is in short supply on this roster.
The Knicks also have some money invested in him, meaning they'd have to pay Tyler a certain amount of money if they decided to cut him.
So it makes sense, I think, for the Knicks to keep Tyler around and take a look at him after he heals from the surgery. He is expected to be out 8-10 weeks.
