NEW YORK -- Baron Davis has only been a Knick for less than 24 hours and he's already put his name in the team's record book.
Davis has chosen jersey number 85, the highest value ever on a blue and orange uniform. Previously No. 55 topped the list, which is now represented by rookie Josh Harrellson. In the past, that number belonged to Louis Orr (1982-88), Kiki Vandeweghe (1988-1992) and Dikembe Mutombo (2003-o4).
Davis rocked 85 last season with the Cavaliers to honor his grandparents' house on 85th Street in the Los Angeles area, where he lived as a kid.
"That's where I had my first basketball court and was introduced to the game," Davis said when he joined the Cavs. "I have to get back to my roots, get back to dribbling -- even if I have to dribble in the snow. I want to just enjoy the game, the love of the game and really enjoy this opportunity of being the best basketball player I can be. I think it's going to happen here."
That "it" is now to get healthy and hopefully make a return by February.
