Stoudemire out with bruised left knee

News out of Thursday morning's shootaround at the Verizon Center is that Amar'e Stoudemire will not suit up to play the Wizards because of a bruised left knee.

But Mike Woodson said that Stoudemire, who suffered the injury during practice on Wednesday, would dress if it were after Nov. 1.

"If this was a regular-season game, he would play," he told reporters.

Kurt Thomas will replace Stoudemire at power forward. As for who will start at shooting guard, Woodson said it will be a game-time decision. Even if it's not J.R. Smith, the coach says he and the player see eye-to-eye.

"The bottom line is J.R. and I are on the same page," Woody said. "I’d rather leave it at that."

James White did make the trip after experiencing a sore right hamstring the past few days, so he could get some burn at the two spot. Those players who stayed back in New York include Marcus Camby (left calf strain), Rasheed Wallace (conditioning), and Ronnie Brewer, Iman Shumpert and Chris Smith (all knee-related).

The Knicks' first preseason game tips off at 7 p.m. ET on MSG.
