Agent: Jason Kapono has interest in Knicks

Wasserman Media Group's Greg Lawrence confirmed with ESPNNewYork.com that his client Jason Kapono is interested in the Knicks.

Lawrence said Kapono, an unrestricted free agent who played for the 76ers last season, would be "a great fit in coach [Mike] Dantoni's system."

"Jason has interest from several teams and we are in the process of trying to figure out the best situation for him," Lawrence said.

The 6-8 Kapono only played 24 games for Philly in 2010-11, but a source close to the team said a return to the City of Brotherly Love is out of the question, even though he's healthy.

"He has zero connection at this point with the Sixers," the source said. "He won't come back and they don't want him."

Since the Knicks traded Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari, they could use a small forward/stretch four who's money from downtown. Kapono is only 30 years old and he has a career 43.7 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. In fact, in 2006-07 and 07-08, he led the league in that category (51.4 and 48.3 percent, respectively).

In addition to Kapono at that playing position, the Knicks should inquire about Shane Battier, Matt Barnes, James Jones, Michael Redd and, of course, resigning Shawne Williams.
