BRAVES SHORT HOPS

  • Teheran has tossed 24 consecutive scoreless innings against the Mets. That includes 17 scoreless innings this season, during which he has allowed six hits and no walks while striking out 14. Teheran produced a one-hit shutout against the Mets at Citi Field on June 19. The lone hit came on a leadoff single in the third by Michael Conforto. Teheran returned to the rotation Aug. 19 after missing three weeks with a right lat strain.

  • Freddie Freeman is the reigning National League Player of the Week. He has an active 14-game hitting streak and is hitting .372 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs since Aug. 10.

  • Ender Inciarte, acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks last December in the trade for Shelby Miller, is hitting .408 (29-for-71) during an active 16-game hitting streak. Inciarte also had a 19-game hitting streak from July 19 to Aug. 8. He is the fourth Braves player to have two hitting streaks of 16 or more games in a season single, joining Felipe Alou (1966), Gary Sheffield (2003) and J.D. Drew (2004).

  • John Gant was acquired from the Mets with fellow right-hander Rob Whalen in the original deal for Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe before last year’s non-waiver trade deadline. Whalen made his major league debut on Aug. 3 and went 1-2 with a 6.57 ERA in five starts. He then landed on the disabled list late in the month with what was labeled shoulder fatigue.

  • Matt Kemp is hitting .262 with five homers and 25 RBIs in 35 games since being acquired from the San Diego Padres on July 30 for outfielder Hector Olivera in a toxic contract swap. Kemp is signed through 2019 at $21.75 million per season. Kemp is batting cleanup, protecting Freeman. The Braves received $10 million in the deal. Olivera was released by the Padres after being acquired, despite his contract running through 2020. He was sentenced on Thursday to 90 days in jail after being convicted of a misdemeanor domestic assault charge in Virginia. Eighty days of that sentence is suspended.

  • This is the Braves’ final season at Turner Field. They will move to a new stadium in Cobb County, north of Atlanta, next season. The Mets are 65-105 all time at Turner Field, which opened after the 1996 Olympics. The Braves will christen SunTrust Park with a March 31, 2017 exhibition game against the Yankees.

METS SHORT HOPS

  • The Mets took over sole possession of the second wild-card slot on Thursday when the Cardinals lost. The Mets trailed St. Louis by 5½ games as recently as Aug. 19.

  • The Mets are a combined 6-2 in starts by Gsellman, Lugo and Montero with Jacob deGrom (forearm) and Steven Matz (shoulder) out.

  • Wilmer Flores matched a career high with his 16th homer on Wednesday at Cincinnati. Flores is now serving as the primary second baseman with Neil Walker done for the season because of a herniated disk in his lower back that caused numbness in a toe.

  • Jose Reyes has 19 leadoff homers as a Met. He broke a tie with Curtis Granderson on Wednesday at Cincinnati for the franchise record.
