Four Mets farmhands contributed as Mesa opened the Arizona Fall League schedule with an 8-3 win against the Phoenix Desert Dogs on Tuesday.

Right-hander Brad Holt got off to a strong start. The 33rd overall pick in the 2008 draft, Holt limited Phoenix to one hit and one walk while striking out one in three scoreless innings. He threw 37 pitches (23 strikes).

Nick Carr, a hard thrower who returned from Tommy John surgery during the regular season, tossed two scoreless relief innings, allowing only one hit while striking out one.

Center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs, a walk and double. Second baseman Jordany Valdespin was 1-for-5 with an RBI.
