Catcher Nevin Ashley signs with Mets

NEW YORK -- The New York Mets have signed catcher Nevin Ashley to a minor-league deal and invited him to big-league camp for spring training.

Ashley, 31, appeared in 12 games with the Milwaukee Brewers last season. He went 2-for-20 with a double, RBI and eight strikeouts.

With the Mets poised to open the season with Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki as catchers, Ashley and fellow camp invite Johnny Monell appear ticketed for Triple-A Las Vegas to open the 2016 season.
