DIAMONDBACKS SHORT HOPS

  • Zack Greinke makes his first appearance since June 28 in Tuesday's series opener. He had been on the disabled list with a left oblique strain. Greinke was 7-0 with a 2.26 ERA in his final nine starts before suffering the injury. Greinke was enticed to defect from the Los Angeles Dodgers by a six-year, $206.5 million contract, which he signed in December.

  • Right fielder David Peralta landed on the disabled list Sunday due to more trouble with his right wrist. Peralta had made three separate trips to the DL this season -- twice for wrist difficulty and also because of a lower-back sprain. The Diamondbacks promoted outfielder Socrates Brito from Triple-A Reno to take Peralta's roster spot. Brito had been sidelined June 24 to Aug. 4 with a fractured right toe. He then had been optioned to the minors.

  • 2015 All-Star center fielder A.J. Pollock, who suffered a fractured right elbow sliding into the plate in an exhibition game on the eve of the season, has started a rehab assignment.

  • Third baseman Jake Lamb has 24 homers this season. After his pace slowed while playing through a wrist injury, Lamb produced three long balls on the D-backs' just-completed six-game homestand.

  • Michael Bourn is hitting .244 with two homers and 23 RBIs in 246 at-bats with the D-backs. He made his season debut with Arizona on May 15 after spending spring training with the Atlanta Braves and then playing in the Toronto Blue Jays organization in April and early May before getting released.

  • Paul Goldschmidt ranks 10th in the National League with 70 RBIs.

  • Pitcher-turned-outfielder-turned-pitcher-again Adam Loewen was promoted on July 30. Loewen played first base and right field for the Mets' Triple-A affiliate in 2012.

  • Arizona released 2015 Opening Day starter Josh Collmenter on Sunday.

METS SHORT HOPS

  • Steven Matz is 1-7 with a 4.54 ERA in his last 12 starts as he pitches with a bone spur in his left elbow that will need to be surgically removed after the season.

  • Jose Reyes (oblique strain) is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday. He is eligible to be activated from the disabled list on Thursday. Matt Reynolds primarily has played shortstop with Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) and Reyes on the DL.

  • Jay Bruce is 4-for-24 in six games since joining the Mets, although he does have two homers and four RBIs. Bruce was acquired last Monday for Dilson Herrera and 19-year-old left-hander Max Wotell.

  • In his first 16 starts this season, Noah Syndergaard averaged 15.0 pitches per inning. In his past five starts, in part due to more foul balls, he has averaged 18.5 pitches per inning. He is 1-4 with a 3.99 ERA in his last seven starts.
