New York Mets
The Mets clearly need to add relief help, but a club official suggested Sunday night at the Dolphin Hotel at Disney that the relief corps as currently constituted is deeper than just Francisco Rodriguez and Bobby Parnell.
The person noted that Ryota Igarashi is signed for another season, and added that Japanese pitchers are used to a lot of work -- so perhaps giving Igarashi a more intensive throwing schedule would improve his major league success. Manny Acosta also remains under the Mets' control.
Left-hander Pat Misch very well could take over Hisanori Takahashi's role as a long reliever and spot starter, although he's not a lefty-on-lefty specialist. In fact, Misch actually is better suited to get out right-handed batters.
Lastly, it appears the organization is going to give a serious look to Oliver Perez in spring training as a situation lefty for the bullpen. Still, it's entirely conceivable the Mets don't have much left-handed presence in the bullpen and try to find a right-hander who can retire left-handed batters.
