Daniel Murphy should get the start at second base in Friday's home opener, according to Terry Collins. Murphy is 2-for-6 with a homer against Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann. Collins also wants to try to keep Murphy's bat sharp and utilize his contribution, especially after a strong performance Sunday in Miami during his lone start so far.
• Collins spoke with Josh Thole and Mike Pelfrey after Pelfrey openly questioned pitch selection following the start. The manager's message to Thole was to keep those things in-house. "I wanted to make sure the discussions were with Mike and not you guys," Collins told reporters.
Collins added that he does not worry about pitch selection. "I get caught up in location," he said.
• Collins said Ronny Paulino (anemia) is due to be reexamined today or tomorrow but is progressing. Paulino will complete his 50-game suspension Friday and then should land on the disabled list.
