The series finale between the Mets and Rockies, already postponed from Wednesday, will not begin on time at 3:10 p.m. ET. It will open in a rain delay, with the forecast gloomy all day.
The official expected start time is 5:20 p.m. ET.
Even though it would require a return trip to Coors Field on an off-day, Terry Collins made that sound preferable to risking further injury on a slick field.
"I know that it's not fun to have to try to worry about coming back," the manager said. "But I'm sitting here with two of my stars [David Wright, back; and Ike Davis, ankle] not playing today, both due to injuries. The last thing I need is to ... lose Carlos Beltran or Jason Bay or someone else who is a big, impact part of our lineup because it's a cold, rainy day -- just because we've got to get the game in when we've got five months to play. That's my take on it."
