Bay minimizes calf issue

Jason Bay, who was pulled in the seventh inning of the Mets' 11-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday with a tight right calf, said he would have continued in a closer game.

Bay informed manager Terry Collins of the issue before the game, and the manager pulled Bay when the score got lopsided on a frigid May night.

"We were running around, shagging fly balls in BP today, and just had some very, very, very minor tightness in the calf," Bay said. "I told the trainers before the game, warmed it up, put a sleeve on it, and it felt good. And TC was aware of it. It was really a nonissue."

Bay said he would be back in the lineup Wednesday.
