The Mets designated Nick Evans for assignment after Thursday's rubber-game win against the Brewers.

Evans had rejoined the Mets on May 18, when David Wright landed on the disabled list. He was hitless in 11 at-bats this season, and 19 straight at-bats dating to 2010. Evans did reach via five walks this season.

Evans will be exposed to waivers, but based on past experience likely would clear. If that's the case, because he has been outrighted before, he would have the right to declare free agency rather than report to Triple-A Buffalo. Still, he would be more likely to accept the assignment since he would be hard-pressed to duplicate his salary elsewhere.

The Mets did not announce a corresponding move, but all signs point to Lucas Duda joining the Mets on Friday in Pittsburgh. Duda has seven homers in 14 games with Buffalo since returning from a three-week absence to deal with a back injury.
