Tim Byrdak is in Chicago for a funeral and not at the game on Wednesday night. And Terry Collins lamented how the rapid-fire reporting of information compared to past years now means the Braves know they won’t have to contend with a southpaw in relief.
“Somebody is going to have that uniform on tonight, I know that,” Collins said, suggesting he still might have someone dress up as Byrdak in order to futilely try to deceive Atlanta. “… Why don’t you guys just tell the Braves we don’t have a left-hander?”
Collins ruled out using Chris Capuano, who threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is slated to face the Angels on Friday at Citi Field.
So who might Collins use against a lefty batter?
“Whoever can get them out,” he said.
And who might that be?
“I’ll tell you here in a second. I’ve got all the numbers right here,” Collins said, reaching on his desk. “Manny Acosta.”
