CHARLOTTE 8, BUFFALO 6 (11 INNINGS): Valentino Pascucci's ninth-inning opposite-field homer tied the game at 6, but the Herd could not provide any more offense in the extra frames. The Knights struck in the 11th when Robert Hudson scored on Jordan Danks’ single. The Knights then extended their lead when Dayan Viciedo doubled to center to drive in Danks and give the Knights a two-run lead they would not relinquish. Third baseman Mike Hessman was one of the bright spot for the Herd. Hessman went 2-for-3 and added to his league-high totals in homers and RBIs when he hit a two-run homer in the first inning and drove in another run in the third. Hessman launched a 1-1 pitch to left field to bring his season total of homers to 13, two more than Dan Johnson of Durham. Hessman is now eight RBIs ahead of Colorado's Carlos Santana. John Lujan (1-1) was charged with the loss in relief. For the Knights, Kyle McCulloch (1-0) was credited with the win, and Greg Aquino picked up his fifth save. Tobi Stoner started for the Bisons, completing five innings while allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits. Outfielder Jason Pridie left the game in the sixth when he injured a hamstring running to first on a bunt. Manager Ken Oberkfell said after the game that he expects the center fielder to miss some time. Josh Thole also left the game with a leg injury in the 11th. While catching, Thole tripped over a bat when trying to make a tag on the eventual game-winning run. Oberkfell was more optimistic on the status of Thole's injury. Also, Andy Green was hit on the top of the hand but remained in the game. And Ruben Tejada was lifted after feeling lightheaded. Buffalo left 12 men on base. Boxscore

AUGUSTA 1, SAVANNAH 0: The GreenJackets shut out the San Gnats (24-15) for the third straight game to pull into a first-place tie. The Gnats have not scored a run in the 36 innings of the series. Savannah starter Brandon Moore continued his excellent May by shutting out the GreenJackets through seven innings on four hits. Moore matched a season-high for a Gnats pitcher with 12 strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Augusta scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning against Savannah relievers Chris Hilliard and John Church. GreenJackets second baseman Ryan Cavan began the rally with a single, moved to second on third baseman Chris Dominguez’s single and third on Luke Anders’ sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk, Church relieved Hilliard with the bases loaded and struck out shortstop Sharlon Schoop. However, center fielder Evan Crawford singled into left field with two out to score Cavan. Boxscore
