Reliever Manny Acosta, who actually had limited opponents to two hits -- albeit one a homer -- and one walk in 5 2/3 innings over his previous five appearances, was forced to leave Tuesday’s game in the eighth inning. Acosta had half the nail on his right pinkie ripped off and was bleeding when a line drive from Alberto Gonzalez deflected off him.
“A lot of blood,” Acosta said. “I wanted to stay in the game, but the trainer said, ‘No, you go out.’”
Terry Collins said he doubted he would be able to use Acosta in Wednesday’s game, although the issue is not considered serious.
“I broke my nail a little bit,” Acosta said. “I feel a little sore right now.”
