Former UCLA RHP Rustich retires

Brant Rustich, the Mets' second-round pick in the 2007 draft out of UCLA, has retired. The injury-plagued Rustich missed last season and had been experiencing a nerve issue that reduced the feeling in a finger.

Despite landing Zach Lutz in the fifth round, Lucas Duda in the seventh round and Dillon Gee in the 21st round, '07 proved to be a rough draft for the Mets -- at least in the early rounds.

Their top picks that year: Eddie Kunz (traded to Padres for Allan Dykstra), Nathan Vineyard (retired), Scott Moviel (currently suspended) and Rustich.
