Terry Collins said David Wright had a positive day in the weight room Tuesday as he works back from left rib-cage discomfort, but that the third baseman would not enter Grapefruit League action at least until next week.
"He felt great," Collins said. "We'll see when they'll let him go back on the field. But he said there's no pain at all, no discomfort at all. So, again, those are all great signs. And he admitted, he told me today, 'I think it was really a good move that we slowed this down.'"
As for the timetable for Wright in an exhibition game, Collins said: "We always adjust, but I don't see him playing until the start of next week -- at the earliest."
Also on the injury front among third basemen, Zach Lutz said he hopes to appear in Thursday's Grapefruit League game. Lutz was plunked in the left elbow Sunday by Bobby Parnell and hopes to resume hitting in a cage tomorrow.
