For the first time this season, Johan Santana does not have an extra day of rest between starts. So instead of Santana having a quasi-off-day after his last start, and waiting two days after that to throw a bullpen session, he needed to have a more-regular routine.
The compacter between-starts routine included throwing his bullpen session Thursday at Citi Field in preparation for Sunday's start against the Rockies. The throwing session went well, according to pitching coach Dan Warthen.
Santana tossed a season-high 105 pitches while limiting Miami to one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday.
"He threw the ball great yesterday -- free and easy," Warthen said.
