WASHINGTON -- Pedro Beato could not have been thrilled when he was bypassed for a promotion Sunday, when he was eligible to be activated from the 60-day DL. But three days later, Beato has joined the Mets' depleted bullpen.
Beato arrives having blanked opponents for the final 8 2/3 innings of a rehab stint with Triple-A Buffalo, during which opposing batters hit .138 (4-for-29).
Beato, who had been out since spring training, said he was never diagnosed with anything more severe than inflammation in the shoulder. "Nothing else," he said.
His velocity still is not at its top level. But, Beato said, he reached 95 mph in his final appearance with Buffalo, after being as low as 86 mph on radar guns in spring training.
"It feels forever," Beato said about the length of his absence. "It took me a little bit to get back, but I finally got back, and everything has come along well. I'm healthy."
