Jason Bay was forced to leave Friday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds after hitting his head against the left-field wall on Jay Bruce's second-inning inside-the-park home run.
The Mets say Bay left with a possible concussion. The team expects to put Bay on the disabled list on Saturday. Infielder Justin Turner is scheduled to arrive in Flushing and the anticipation is he will be activated.
Bay missed the final two months of 2010 after suffering a concussion. This season, he has been limited to 21 games because of a fractured rib.
"Since he has had it in the past, this becomes a pretty serious thing," Mets manager Terry Collins said after his team's 7-3 loss to the Reds.
This season, Bay has been limited to 21 games because of a fractured rib. He only has been back for seven games.
Bay fell awkwardly as he skidded into the corner of the left-field wall and appeared to hit his head. He struggled to find his feet before finally throwing in the ball. Bruce came all the way around to score, and there wasn't a play at the plate.
