PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Day 1 is in the books at the Mets' complex in Port St. Lucie.
The first official workout is actually not until Wednesday. Pitchers and catchers merely had to report that they were in the city today. Physicals are Tuesday.
The lone absentee among pitchers and catchers, according to the Mets: Jenrry Mejia, who had the visa issue.
Johan Santana did not take part in the optional workout or speak with the media on Day 1, but he did check in at the complex.
In all, at least 53 of the 58 players invited to camp already have arrived -- even though position players aren't officially due until next Monday. And two of the absentees had very valid reasoning: Jordany Valdespin and Marlon Byrd just got done with the Caribbean Series. The only other position players neither I nor a Mets official spotted: Omar Quintanilla and Cesar Puello.
