No MLB service time, pay for den Dekker

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Matt den Dekker was scheduled to travel to New York today so team doctors could determine whether he required surgery on his right wrist, which he fractured Sunday.

Den Dekker will not receive major league service time and pay while opening the season inactive.

That's because den Dekker was injured in major league camp while on a minor league contract -- not as a 40-man roster member. Had den Dekker been on the 40-man roster and injured within 15 days of Opening Day, he would have qualified for MLB pay during his injury. He will be placed on a minor league DL to open the season.
