PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Matt Harvey tossed four scoreless innings to finish with a 2.96 Grapefruit League ERA, and Ruben Tejada had a two-run double and Collin Cowgill a two-run homer in the fourth against Jake Westbrook, as the Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-2, Friday at Tradition Field.
Tejada Tejada also walked and finished with three RBIs. He is hitting only .098 in spring training.
Marlon Byrd started in center field, but Terry Collins said he is not yet ready to commit to a plan at that position.
Former first-round picks Brandon Nimmo and Gavin Cecchini made their 2013 Grapefruit League debuts and each was hitless in one at-bat. Nimmo is ticketed for low-A Savannah to open the season. Cecchini will stay in extended spring training, then likely be assigned to Brooklyn.
Bobby Parnell again struck out the side in the ninth.
Both Cardinals runs came in the fifth against LaTroy Hawkins.
