Harvey bypassed signing out of high school in Connecticut, was drafted again out of the University of North Carolina, and worked his way through the minors all the way to Triple-A -- the traditional path.

Fernandez arrived in the United States from Cuba by boat as a refugee in 2008. He signed as the 14th overall pick in the 2011 draft out of high school in Tampa. The 20-year-old right-hander went a combined 14-1 with a 1.75 ERA last season between Greensboro and Jupiter. He made the jump to the majors all the way from Class A.

As for pitching repertoires:

Fernandez has used his fastball 61.3 percent of the time. It averages 94.7 mph. He throws a curveball 24.8 percent of the time and changeup 11.1 percent.

Harvey’s fastball actually has averaged a near-identical 94.8 mph. He throws it 58.2 percent of the time. Harvey uses his slider 19.1 percent, changeup 11.6 percent and curveball 11.2 percent.
