Fernando Tatis underwent right shoulder surgery Wednesday to repair a labrum tear and clean out the AC joint. Tatis had been placed on the disabled list on July 5. The injury dates back to Sept. 16, 2008, when Tatis separated the shoulder attempting to make a diving catch on a double by Odalis Perez at Washington. Tatis decided to rehab rather than undergo surgery at that point.
Tatis was transferred to the 60-day DL in order, where he does not count toward the 40-man roster. Tatis' transfer to that DL allowed the Mets to activate Carlos Beltran for Thursday's game in San Francisco.
