DePo 'optimistic' about major signing

NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball clubs are allowed to begin signing 16-year-old international free agents on Tuesday morning. And Mets VP Paul DePodesta seemed to indicate the Mets are likely to have a major signing (defined as a $1 million-plus or high six-figure signing bonus).

"We're optimistic, but we'll see," DePodesta told ESPNNewYork.com.

The Mets handed out a franchise-record international signing bonus of $1.75 million to Dominican shortstop Amed Rosario last July.

Rosario, now 17, is hitting .205 through 10 games at Kingsport this season.
