New York Mets
The rookie outfielder hit .700 (7-for-10) with a homer and five RBIs in the All-Star-break-shortened week.
Lagares, 24, had been hitting .234 entering the break.
He is not in the lineup Monday with the Mets facing a right-handed pitcher.
UPDATE: Terry Collins suggested Lagares is likely to play Tuesday against right-hander Kris Medlen. The reasoning: Righty batters are hitting .295 versus Medlen compared with .261 for lefty batters.
"We know Juan Lagares has got a little pop," Collins said. "But we know Kirk Nieuwenhuis has got some power, too. We're all really happy with what happened with Juan the last three days. He's had a great series. He got an award because of it. Great. Now just continue to work and continue to stay with it because you never know. Something happens, Kirk gets hit on the finger and he's out two weeks, Juan Lagares will be the guy."
