WASHINGTON -- Right-hander Jeurys Familia, who underwent surgery to clean out his right elbow on June 5, has a chance to return to the majors this season, Terry Collins said.
"I heard -- now this is only hearsay -- that there's a possibility he may pitch again this year, that he's really made fast strides after surgery," Collins said. "I wouldn't count on it, but they did say there was a possibility. Where he's at right now, they said, he's got a chance to pitch again this year."
Familia already has started throwing. Collins was skeptical, though, about the internal reports of a rapid recovery.
"I've heard that before," the manager dryly said.
