NEW YORK -- Bobby Parnell officially has been placed on the disabled list with a herniated disk in his neck, a day after receiving an epidural at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Sandy Alderson suggested surgery ultimately may be required.
“He had a series of injections last week. He had an epidural yesterday. And so right now we’re simply evaluating how he responds to those two treatments,” Alderson said. “We’ll know more in the next two or three days. It is conceivable that if those don’t work, something more significant, more invasive would have to be considered -- surgery, possibly. But right now we’re not at that stage.”
Terry Collins said the Mets will mix and match at closer. Among the considerations: David Aardsma, LaTroy Hawkins, Gonzalez Germen and Carlos Torres. Collins, however, said he would not be eager to disrupt Hawkins' eighth-inning success by altering his role. Collins also indicated he will try to hold back a left-hander for the ninth inning.
Wilmer Flores takes Parnell's roster spot. For the full story click here.
