NEW YORK -- Ike Davis is back in the cleanup spot Tuesday for the first time since July 13.

Terry Collins, while talking up Davis, essentially said there was no other candidate.

"It's dictated by the other guys in the lineup," the manager said.

Collins added: "Ike Davis, last November, was the fourth hitter on this team. He's hitting .270 since he's been back. He's got a .400 on-base. Maybe it's a chance to continue. That's where he belongs. That's where he is supposed to be.

"I certainly didn't want to put Wilmer [Flores] there. I wasn't going to put [fellow rookie Juan] Lagares there. I'm not putting [Daniel] Murph[y] there. I tried to put the lineup to where guys might get on and we can maybe get something going. ... If they don't hit, I'm running out of ideas. So if you've got any, mail them in."
