NEW YORK -- First baseman Dominic Smith, the Mets' top pick (11th overall) in the June draft, has been promoted from the Gulf Coast League to Kingsport in time for the Appalachian League playoffs.
Smith, 18, hit .287 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 167 GCL at-bats. He had a .384 on-base percentage.
Kingsport has three games remaining in its regular season.
The lefty-batting, lefty-throwing Smith received a $2.6 million bonus after signing out of high school in Los Angeles.
