WASHINGTON -- The Mets have signed veteran right-hander Aaron Harang and assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Harang, 35, was 5-11 with a 5.76 ERA in 22 starts for the Seattle Mariners this season. He recently was designated for assignment.
The Mets will need a sixth starter in September. And it remains unclear whether Daisuke Matsuzaka can be effective at the major league level. The Mets also have appeared to prefer Carlos Torres working out of the bullpen.
