NEW YORK -- Jeurys Familia, who missed much of the season because of surgery to clean out his right elbow, plans to play winter ball in the Dominican Republic for Indios del Cibao.
Because Familia worked on Thursday and Friday with Savannah, Terry Collins plans to stay away from using him during Saturday's doubleheader.
Collins said there originally was no expectation Familia would return this season after having a bone spur and loose bodies removed from the elbow on June 5.
"Nobody pushed me," said Familia, who rejoined the Mets on Saturday. "I was just feeling better every day."
