PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Bobby Parnell, who underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck on Sept. 10, threw off a mound Friday at the Mets spring-training complex for the first time since the procedure.
Terry Collins said Parnell threw only 10 uneventful pitches. Those tosses came with the catcher in front of the plate.
Collins said Parnell's session caught even the manager off guard, since Parnell had indicated he planned to wait an additional two weeks before proceeding with mound work.
However, Parnell met with trainers Friday and switched things up.
"Everybody said go ahead if you feel that good," Collins said.
