Mets roster projection: 2014.02

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- I don't think Ike Davis' quotes, and then agitation with a reporter, by themselves seal a trade. But my gut is that he is more likely to be traded this spring training than he is likely to remain a Met come Opening Day. So let's update our roster projection, which slides Lucas Duda into the starting lineup and opens a bench spot.

Of course, a Davis trade might return a major-league player, so this is just speculative. The Mets could swing a trade for a shortstop, too, before Opening Day -- say Seattle's Nick Franklin.

Rotation

Jonathon Niese, lhp

Bartolo Colon, rhp

Dillon Gee, rhp

Zack Wheeler, rhp

Daisuke Matsuzaka, rhp

Lineup

Eric Young Jr., lf

Daniel Murphy, 2b

David Wright, 3b

Curtis Granderson, rf

Chris Young, cf

Duda, 1b

Travis d'Arnaud, c

Ruben Tejada, ss

Bench

Anthony Recker, c

Josh Satin, 1b/3b

Anthony Seratelli, if/of

Juan Lagares, of

Andrew Brown, of

Analysis: Adding Brown makes this an all-righty bench, with the exception of the switch-hitting Seratelli, so I don't love that projection. But the lefty outfield alternatives would be Matt den Dekker and Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and generally young players don't get tabbed for fifth-outfielder roles, so stay tuned.

Bullpen

Bobby Parnell, closer

Jose Valverde, rhp

Kyle Farnsworth, rhp

Vic Black, rhp

Scott Rice, lhp

Jeurys Familia, rhp
