PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Terry Collins offered positive reports on the Mets' banged-up players, but nonetheless said Eric Young Jr. may be held out of Grapefruit League play through the weekend.
Young (side muscle) hit off a tee Thursday, while Bartolo Colon (calf) should resume tossing a baseball Friday, according to Collins.
On Colon, Collins said: "He's doing all his stuff inside. He's riding the bikes. We just don't want him running. He's going to throw tomorrow, I think. Dan [Warthen] is going to try to do something with him to make sure we don't strain the calf too bad. But everything's fine."
On when Young might play in a game, the manager said: "I asked about Saturday. They actually want to see him on a field a couple of days before we put him in a game. So Sunday would be the earliest, probably. And, if not, Monday or Tuesday."
Right-handed prospect Chasen Bradford, meanwhile, has tossed a baseball the past two days after being held out early in camp because of an oblique injury.
