Sources: Carlos Torres lock for bullpen

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Right-hander Carlos Torres is out of options, meaning he would need to clear waivers to be sent to the minors. That process will not be taking place late in spring training, according to sources.

The Mets are resolute in planning to have Torres break camp on the big-league roster in the bullpen. He also would be available for spot starting.

Torres, 31, went 4-6 with a 3.44 ERA and 1.112 WHIP in 33 appearances (nine starts) for the Mets last season.

He next is due to appear in Grapefruit League play on Wednesday, in the split-squad game at Tradition Field against the Miami Marlins, after starter Dillon Gee.

Torres originally signed as a free agent with the Mets on Nov. 15, 2012 after appearances with the Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies earlier in his career.

Along with Torres, Ruben Tejada and Eric Young Jr. are the only Mets out of options. And both those players will be on the big-league club in some capacity as well.
