Sandy Alderson was uninterested in Stephen Drew at $14 million a season.

NEW YORK -- On the day Stephen Drew landed back with the Red Sox, Sandy Alderson essentially said the Mets did not view the shortstop as a $14 million-a-year player.

Asked point blank if he was interested in Drew at the level the Red Sox paid, Alderson bluntly said: "Which is what -- $14 million, prorated? I think the short answer is no."

Drew should receive $10 million the remainder of the season, which translates to $14 million for a full year.

"I don't think I ever said we didn't have interest in Drew," Alderson said. "Under all the circumstances, [we] decided not to pursue it."
